Opollo Health and Wellness prescribes Semiglutide for weight loss as approved by FDA.

Semiglutide according to the FDA (2023) belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating. One role of GLP-1 is to prompt the body to produce more insulin, which reduces blood glucose (sugar). GLP-1 in higher amounts also interacts with the parts of the brain that reduce appetite and signal a feeling of fullness.

There are contraindications for Semiglutide use in patients with hypersensitivity, family or personal medical history of certain types of thyroid cancer, type 1 diabetes, medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) or suicidal patient.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypoglycemia, acid reflux, injection site reaction, etc, are some of the most common side effects that may occur with Semiglutide.

Semiglutide is a once a week self injection under the skin.
